Friends of the Maribyrnong Valley Inc. (FMV) aims to prevent misuse and degradation of the Maribyrnong Valley. FMV aims to try and safeguard this natural asset from over-development, noxious and introduced vegetation, pollution and loss of further indigenous plants and animals with on ground works, obtaining grants and working with the community to complete the works program.
The Lower Maribyrnong River Valley lands has a great amount of value in terms of cultural heritage – both European and Indigenous peoples, natural values as it provides a habitat corridor for vulnerable species within the urban landscape. FMV goals are to assist in its long term rehabilitation by raising public awareness, particularly of those living in nearby municipalities, of the great recreational resource and potential of the Maribyrnong River and its valley. Now, more than ever, the maintenance of revegetation sites and community engagement activities run by the volunteers are vital to the long term sustainability of the natural values within this parkland. The volunteer work program assists PV to deliver on key outcomes of the PV Future Directions Plan 2003: Trestle Bridge to Steele Creek.
